What is 12 Stones?

The '12 Stones' name

from Joshua 4

the LORD spoke to Joshua saying...

"Take up for yourselves twelve stones out of the Jordan, from the place where the priests' feet are standing firm, and carry them over with you and lay them down"

Then Joshua said to the sons of Israel, "When your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, "What are these stones?' then you shall teach your children, saying, "Israel crossed this Jordan on dry ground.' "For the LORD your God dried up the waters of the Jordan before you until you had crossed, just as the LORD your God had done to the Red Sea, so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the hand of the LORD is mighty, so that you may fear the LORD your God forever."

12 Stones desires to be a community of families committed to teaching the commandments of Jesus to our children so we all may 'fear the LORD our God forever'.

Motivations

from Deuteronomy 6
"Now this is the commandment which the LORD your God has commanded me to teach you so that you and your son and your grandson might fear the LORD your God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments all the days of your life, and that your days may be prolonged. "Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD is one! "You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. "These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up. "You shall bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontals on your forehead. "You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

from Psalm 78
for He established a testimony in Jacob and appointed a law in Israel which He commanded our fathers that they should teach them to their children, so that the generation to come might know, even the children yet to be born, so that they may arise and tell them to their children.

from Titus 2
But as for you, speak the things which are fitting for sound doctrine. Older men are to be temperate, dignified, sensible, sound in faith, in love, in perseverance. Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored. Likewise urge the young men to be sensible; in all things show yourself to be an example of good deeds, with purity in doctrine, dignified, sound in speech which is beyond reproach, so that the opponent will be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us.
